I think Odom said it best when he did the post-game interview in the locker room they showed on ESPN. Here's how it went:
Reporter: What did you see on that last play of the game?
Odom: Well...what did you see?
Reporter: Uh, a possible foul.
Odom: I saw those all night long.

I stopped reading 1/2 down this page, but a thought I have always had:
Lakers had the ball with something like 5.4 on the clock, and 2 on the shot clock. When the ball was inbounded, Kobe took a fade away shot that missed, SA got the rebound with just over 2 left and called timeout, getting the ball at 1/2 court.
Why not get the ball in, let the clock get down to 1 on the shot clock, and heave the ball as high in the air as possible w/o touching anything in the rafters. You figure that by the time the ball comes down, a good 2 seconds run off the clock. Then you have a jump ball/tip it around that kills another second and the game ends. As long as the ball leaves the shooters hand, their is no shot clock violation.
Just a thought. It would have eliminated the Spurs ever touching the ball again to have a chance to win.
kobe wanted the spotlight, thats why
Kobe tried hitting the shot basically putting it our of reach anyway. Thats generally what you are going to do. It shouldnt have mattered because the shot clock should have been off.

As usual, your youth and clouded conspiracy riddled mind doesn't get the actual gameplan at hand.
While 7teen's thought is solid & valid, I'd say what was thought by Kobe and the rest of the team was that they should get it in the hands of their best foul shooter, and let him try to get to the line. He took a fadeaway, couldn't draw the foul, and the rebound came to SA. However...had he gotten fouled, went to the line, and hit 2 shots--the only thing SA can do is tie you in 1 possession, not beat you--and even then, they'd have to get a 3pter to go down, plus a FT if fouled. Even if Kobe makes 1 of 2 from the line, that puts LA up by 3 and forces SA to take a 3 to tie, and their only shot to win is the aforementioned 3pter plus a FT if fouled.
That line of thought is what you have to have in the playoffs--fight for every point, don't leave a second on the clock to where you could have gotten points and instead played it safe, b/c you never know what could happen.
See the game, young grasshopper.
How about this stat. The Spurs and Jazz both play a rough tough style of D. In the Jazz series, Kobe shot 95 free throws. So far in 4 games against the Spurs, he has shot 6. I guess the refs are still babying Kobe huh.
the series is over, im the biggest spurs fan here and I can admit it, LA is the better team right now, they are clicking on all cylinders and Kobe is the best player in the league.
its really hard to believe how many no calls have gone against Kobe AND Timmy D, two MVPs and superstars who arent getting any calls.
I've got a feelin'....
Anyone see earlier in the series were Duncan took 4 steps and dunked the ball with no dribble?
